Join us for Sketchy Tuesday for Architecture and the City, 2017!
Grab a sketchbook and your own lunch, and join us at one of the following locations to sketch.
For this year's theme, Secret City, we'll be exploring San Francisco's POPOS: privately owned public open spaces.
POPOS are spaces for the public to use within private buildings for lunch, informal meetings, reading, sketching or to spend some time outside. We will pass through private buildings to access some of the public spaces. For more information, see SPUR's great guide on POPOS.
100 First Street Roof Terrace. 12pm-1pm
100 First St, San Francisco (SOMA)
Join us for the first Sketchy Tuesday of Architecture and the City 2017! We'll be meeting at the roof terrace above the 100 First Street Garage. The terrace is part of the 100 First Street building, but the entrance to the terrace is on Mission Street between First and Second, near 515 Mission Street. Take the large flight of stairs next to Proper Food. There is an accessible entrance with an elevator through the lobby of 100 First Street.
In addition to Proper Food, there are many great lunch spots right around the terrace. The terrace has great benches, tables and lots of interesting angles to draw, as well as a view of the Transbay Terminal's cool metal screen. (Thanks, John King, for the tip!)
San francisco Art institute rooftop. 12PM-1PM
800 Chestnut Street, San Francisco (russian Hill/North Beach)
Let's meet at the San Francisco Art Institute for some sketching on their rooftop! Enter through the main doors at 800 Chestnut, walk across the courtyard, and follow the hallway to the left to the stairs or elevator to the Zellerbach Quadrangle. On the next floor, there is a staircase to the right of the Emmanuel Walter Gallery to the upper level of the roof. Both the lower and upper levels of the roof have great vistas to sketch.
While you're there, don't miss the fresco by Diego Rivera, in the Diego Rivera Gallery.
The SFAI has a cafe right in the Zellerbach Quadrangle to grab some lunch or a snack, and we also highly recommend Cafe de Casa a few blocks away.

TRANSAMERICA REDWOOD PARK. 12PM-1PM
600 MONTGOMERY, SAN FRANCISCO (FINANCIAL DISTRICT)
We'll meet at noon at the Redwood Park next to the Transamerica Building. If you haven't been to this park, it's a very fun surprise in the middle of a business district, and certainly came to mind when we thought of this year's theme, Secret City.
If you don't immediately see the park and the tall redwoods, keep walking around the pyramid: there are entrances from Clay and Washington Streets.
This location is in the heart of the Financial District, so there are a plethora of spots to stop if you don't want to pack a lunch.

Simply enter the lobby, sign in at the desk, say you're going to the roof terrace and take the elevator to the 6th floor.
Pack your own lunch or stop at one of the many lunch spots around.
